Zaytouna Primary School

Art & Design

"Every human is an artist"

Subject Overview:

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Subject Intent:

Art is in the details of our lives. It has the ability to inspire and to amaze. At Zaytouna Primary School, we want our children to become leaders of a part of the curriculum which is bespoke to their own ability.

Art at Zaytouna will inspire writing, drama and movement. Our children will develop an imagination, which will take them on incredible journeys into the past to stimulate a love for history and geography. They will use art to depict stories and beliefs of the Noble Quran.

Art contributes to children’s personal development in creativity, independence, evaluation and self-reflection. Moreover, it enables pupils to develop a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them.

Our intent is for children to explore a variety of art techniques and skills and to have the ability to evaluate their craft regularly throughout their learning journey. Our learners will develop into critical thinkers who have a deeper understanding of the subject as well as the art forms that have shaped our history and culture.

We will enable environments where children can be creative and engaged with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
